After a problematical 2009 due to the effects of the financial crisis and resulting recession apparel sales are on the increase in Mexico.

The recovery has been most evident on the Pacific coast from Sinaloa to Mexicali with increases of between 20% - 30% being mentioned by buyers at the Intermoda fashion fair currently underway in Guadaljara in Jalisco state.

These estimates contrast sharply with the state of the apparel industry at the end of 2009 when a fall of 11% in overall sales was reported by the sector.

The publisher of the Mexican footwear, apparel and textile magazine, Amador Ruvalcaba is at Intermoda and has reported that activity on the second day of the fair was much better than expected.

Intermoda has grown to some 1200 stands for the July edition and buyers are actively pursuing the latest fashion items on show. There is also a mix of international exhibitors from country such as Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Spain, Chile, USA and India.

The highlight of the inaugural fashion show was the presentation of the latest collection from Spanish designer
Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada for Fall/Winter 2010/2011.
